How I Got Top Google Rankings for My Keywords

If you’re a freelance writer or any type of writer trying to make it in the online scene, you’re probably hearing a lot about SEO. Search engine optimization is all over the Net and everybody who’s anybody has it and tells you that you need it.

When you write for the Net, it’s all about getting seen on the Web and there are many competitors getting in the way. How can you get noticed when it seems there are so many other sites out there trying to do the same thing?

I started this blog because I wanted to help other writers know how to make it in the writing world. I allow open comments from readers and I try to answer each and every question that comes in.

Over the years, I’ve heard many types of questions but one subject that comes up all the time is SEO. Writers ask me about how to write for keywords, how to choose keywords, which keyword tools to use and more.

I know they’re asking hoping I will share some profound inside knowledge with them. But the thing is, I never really worried about SEO that much when it comes to my own writing and my own Websites.

My freelance writer website www.freelancewriter4hire.com ranks in the top three for the following keyword phrases:

  • hire freelance writer (Google 1st)
  • freelance writer for hire (Google 1st)
  • hire freelance writer (Google 1st)
  • how to hire a freelance writer
  • freelance writer hire
  • hire a writer
  • writer for hire (Google 1st)
  • article writer for hire
  • hire article writer
  • hire a writer
  • how to hire a writer
  • hire writer
  • hire professional writer
  • professional writer for hire

This is the site that I use for marketing my services as a writer. How did this happen? How did I get such great rankings with Google? Is there some super secret technique I used to reach the top?

I’m about to share my greatest secret with you right here. Get ready because you won’t find this type of honesty anywhere else online. The secret to top ranking is…

I have no secret. In fact, I didn’t even target these keywords when I made my site. My website was 100% created by me. I didn’t hire an outside web designer, SEO expert or any other guru. I made the site the way I pictured it in my head and the text was 100% written according to what I thought my readers and potential clients would want to know.

The focus of my site was to have something to show when I applied for certain writing jobs. Then it also became a place for me to share info to other writers or to potential clients who are looking for writers. I asked myself, “What would I want to know if I was looking to hire a writer?” and then I did my best to answer that on my site.

Within the first 2 weeks of launching my site, I was ranking high for the keywords listed above and similar phrases. I was getting more and more emails each morning when I woke asking me to do projects for them.

My site became popular fast and remained that way through the test of time. I didn’t hire any experts, I didn’t pay for an SEO package and I didn’t even research any keywords before I created my site.

Instead, I focused on original, informative and creative content. I answered the question “What does my reader want?” and it paid off time and time again. So what does this mean?

Basically, the best piece of advice I can give to writers is to create quality content first. There’s nothing wrong with freshening up on your SEO skills and learning a bit about keyword writing but your first priority should always be in giving top quality writing.

Think about your readers first and the rest will follow.
