Finding Writing Ideas- Look to Your Family

Do you struggle to come up with article ideas?

Do you want to write but you don’t know what to write about?

Good ideas could be hiding right under your nose- you just have to learn how to discover them!

I hear this complaint often from writers, bloggers and other people looking to get into the writing industry. There are many great ways to find ideas all around you and once you discover them, you will find the real trouble lies in how to keep up with all the ideas that are going to come flooding in. One trick that I have for finding writing ideas is to look to my family. My children, spouse and extended family members gives me loads of ideas on what to write about.

This is why you will see many of my articles are about children, parenting tips, education or other ideas related to children. With four children of my own, I find an endless supply of ideas. Here’s one example: Eight Tips to Get Your Kids to Enjoy Home Gardening

Both of my daughters are really into gardening, plants, flowers and planting so I use this as opportunities to spend time together, learn together and also as article ideas. When it comes to gardening, there is an endless supply of ideas. I’ve written about 5 Steps to a Better Lawn and Garden, 3 Easy Tips to Successful Container Gardening, Gardening in a Weekend and more.

There is also a lot to write about parenting. If you have kids, or even just one child, there is a never-ending supply of article ideas just in that alone. You might write about challenges that you face as a parent, tips for a unique parenting situation, personal experience stories about you and your child and more. In addition, you might write about managing a family and a business, working at home, choosing a baby sitter or ways to spend time together.

You can spin off from this and write about the child, problems kids face, how to bond with your child at different ages and more. The ideas never stop- all you need to do is learn to find them. This is just one area for finding writing ideas from your family. You can also write about challenges your family faces, how you choose what to cook for dinner, how to prepare meals for a large family or how to deal with allergies, asthma or other health conditions.

You might write about what your family does for fun, how you spend quality time together or tips on how to make more time together as a family. Does your family have a unique tradition? Do you go on vacation to a special place every year? Again, the article ideas are endless. I suggest finding a great place to store them so that you can save them when they come to you and then write them as you have time.

For another great tip on how to come up with article or blog ideas- use a photo!

That’s exactly what I did with this post. I found these great photos of my girls gardening and I thought how can I use this in a blog post for my writing blog? Earlier today on Twitter, someone asked me for advice on coming up with article ideas. I merged the two ideas and here you have it: a post about finding writing ideas that includes the photos of my lovely daughters.

How will you use these ideas today?
