Article Tips- How Many Articles Do You Need?

March 23, 2010 Lisa Mason 2 comments

One of the most common questions I get from people who come to me for article marketing advice is how many articles they need. While this is an understandable question, it doesn’t have such an easy answer. The simple answer would be as many as you have. The more the merrier, as they say and in article marketing you can never have too many.

That being said, you are probably limited by budget and time constraints so you really need to know where you should start off. In the past, a good set of 5-10 articles would help you launch an article marketing campaign. The honest truth is that just doesn’t cut it anymore.

You’re going to be looking at more like 25-50 to launch a campaign and if you really want to make a splash with your product, you’re going to be considering hundreds of articles. But this doesn’t mean you have to have them all at once. Instead, this is the type of marketing technique that you build on over time and it will benefit you more and more as you continue to grow.

The biggest mistake most Internet marketers make is in trying to get more for their money by outsourcing their article writing to ghostwriters. They often choose those who write for the lowest amounts in order to get more articles out there more quickly. This can be death to your article marketing campaign.

Low quality, poorly written articles are going to reflect poorly on you and the more of them you have, the more chances they are going to make your company or product look bad.  Hiring multiple writers can lead to an inconsistent voice and problems with cross-referencing the facts. You open a whole new can of worms when you start trying to get other people to write your marketing articles for you.

So what can you do instead? One step is to learn how to improve your article writing skills such as by reading article tips articles like this one. Another idea is to only hire high quality, proven ghostwriters to collaborate with you on the types of articles you want to write or to hire someone to edit and clean up the articles that you write so that they appear more professional.

While more articles are ideal, you don’t want to have that at the cost of quality. Instead, you want to find a good balance of quality and quantity, continually adding to your article database as much and as often as you are able. So the answer to how many articles you need really lies in you and your specific needs and capabilities.
