When i
t comes to writing articles, you need to learn a thing or two about your writing style. Everyone has one and if you don’t know yours, it could be you haven’t figured it out yet. Sometimes novice writers will try too hard to copy other writers who are out there and they lose their own natural voice. The writing then sounds strained and unnatural. It may even be hard to read because it doesn’t flow properly.
Your article writing style is unique to you. It’s what makes you stand out from other writers and it’s what makes your articles unique to your name. If you’re not yet sure what your article writing style is, then it is a good time to start trying to figure it out. There are different ways that you can do this.
Here are some examples:
- Read work that you have written freely on your own
- Write in a journal and compare this style to your article style
- Ask friends or family members to describe your style
A combination approach using these methods listed above is probably the best way to get an accurate idea of what your style is. For example, I tend to write in a more conversational tone, even when writing about technical topics. I want it to feel like a friend-to-friend chat and I often write articles that are meant to be helpful and instructional. I don’t want my readers to feel confused about what I’m asking them to do.
Instead, I want my writing to have more of a coffee-house approach like two friends sitting around chatting over a mocha. But if this isn’t your style and you try to force it, it’s going to come out awkward and even creepy. Some people naturally write in a more technical or professional tone. Some people are great at using humor whereas when others try to force humor, it’s just not funny. This is why you need to take an unbiased look at what your style really is and then embrace it with your article writing.
Now that you know how to help find your article writing style, it’s important to start using this style and voice when you write your articles. Not only will you have better articles that draw the reader in but they will be easier for you to write as well. You will start to build a following that is used to your articles and your style and want to come back for more again and again.
